LESSON 4
How to Get Bitcoin
You get Bitcoin by trading your regular money for it. The place you do that is called an exchange. It is just an app, like a store that swaps dollars for Bitcoin.
Think of it like this: An exchange is like the money-changer booth at an airport. You hand over dollars, and you get a different kind of money back. Here, that money is Bitcoin.
Put dollars in, press Buy, and a little Bitcoin comes out into your account.
The simple steps
- 1. Pick a trusted app. Big, well-known ones are easiest for beginners. Ask a grown-up you trust which one they use.
- 2. Make an account. You give your name and prove who you are (this is the law, so it is normal and OK).
- 3. Add money. Link a bank account or card, like any other shopping app.
- 4. Press Buy. Type how much you want to spend and tap Buy. Done!
You do NOT have to buy a whole Bitcoin
One whole Bitcoin costs a lot. But you can buy a tiny slice, like buying one slice of pizza instead of the whole pie. Even a few dollars buys you a little piece. The smallest pieces even have a name: satoshis (or "sats").
Try this (smart): Start tiny. Buy just a few dollars' worth the first time, only to learn how it works. Never spend money you need for food, bills, or saving.
Remember: An exchange app swaps your dollars for Bitcoin. Start small, and you can buy little slices, not just whole coins.
