2 Peter

Chapter 1 of 3
1From Simon Cephas, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who share honor with us in the faith that has been given to us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. 2May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of our God and of Jesus Christ our Lord. 3By his divine power he has given us every work that leads to life. He is the righteous one who called us into his glory and his goodness. 4Through this we live, grow great, and are honored by the promise he has granted us, so that through it you may become sharers in his divine nature, having escaped the corrupt desire of this world. 5So you also, with all diligence in what you do, add goodness to your faith, knowledge to goodness, and self-control to knowledge, 6patience to self-control, and godliness to patience, 7brotherly kindness to godliness, and love to brotherly kindness. 8If all these things are in you, you will not be idle or without fruit. Instead, they will bring you into the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But whoever does not have these things is a blind man who walks by groping, and he has forgotten that he was cleansed from the sins that had worn him down. 10So now, my brothers, be diligent, so that through the firmness of your conduct your calling may be firm and you may settle the account of your faith. If you do this, you will not go astray. 11And a wide road will be given to you that leads into eternal life and the kingdom of our Savior Jesus Christ. 12For this reason I will always take care to remind you of this command, even though you are firmly established in the truth you have. 13I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by reminding you, 14because I know that my departure from you will come soon, as my Lord Jesus Christ has shown me. 15I will also be diligent to make sure that this command always stays with you, so that you remember it after my death and act on it. 16For we did not follow clever myths when we made known to you the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, his coming, and his presence. We ourselves saw his majesty when he received honor and glory from God the Father. 17A voice full of glory and majesty came down upon him and said, "This is my Son whom I love, whom I have chosen." 18We ourselves heard this voice come down to him from heaven while we were with him on his holy mountain. 19And we have something even more certain than this, the word of the prophets that makes it known. If you do well to carry it out and pay attention to it, it will be for you like a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns for you and the morning star rises and shines in your hearts. 20But first know this: no prophecy in scripture carries its own interpretation. 21For prophecy never came from human will or human desire. Holy men spoke by the Holy Spirit, sent from God.
