2 Timothy
Chapter 1 of 4
1From Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Jesus Christ, 2to Timothy, my son whom I love: Peace to you, and mercy and grace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. 3I give thanks to God, whom I have served with a pure heart from my birth. I remember you constantly in my prayers, day and night. 4I long to see you, and I remember your tears. 5I rejoice when I recall your faith, which has no hypocrisy in it. That faith lived in your mother Eunice and your grandmother Lois. My joy is made complete, and I am convinced that it lives in you as well. 6For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that you received when I laid my hands on you. 7For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, purity, love, and wisdom. 8So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, and do not be ashamed of me, his prisoner. Instead, endure hardship for the sake of the teaching, by the power of God, who saved us and called us with his holy calling. 9He did this not because of our works, but because of his own will and grace, which was given to us in Jesus Christ before the world began. 10Now it has been revealed through the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior. He destroyed death, brought life to light, and removed corruption through the teaching of his gospel. 11For this gospel I was appointed an apostle, a preacher, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12That is why I suffer, yet I am not ashamed of the cause I serve. For I know the one I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard what he has entrusted to me until that day. 13Let the word of life you heard from me be your pattern, in faith and in the love of Jesus Christ. 14Guard the good trust given to you, through the Holy Spirit who lives in you. 15You know this too: everyone in Asia has turned away from me, Phygelus and Hermogenes among them. 16May God show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. 17When he reached Rome, he quickly searched for me and found me in my imprisonment. 18May God grant that he find mercy from our Lord on that day. And you yourself know well how much good service he gave me in Ephesus.
