Joshua
Chapter 1 of 24
1After the death of Moses, the servant of the LORD, the LORD spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' assistant, and said, 2"Moses my servant is dead. Now get up and cross this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to you, the children of Israel. 3Every place where your foot treads I am giving to you, just as I told Moses. 4From the wilderness and the Anti-Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the western sea where the sun goes down, will be your territory. 5No one will stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or abandon you. 6Be strong and courageous, for you will divide to this people the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. 7Only be very strong and courageous, so that you keep and do all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may succeed wherever you go. 8Do not let the book of this law depart from your mouth. Read it day and night, so that you may know how to do everything written in it. Then your way will prosper, and through it you will act wisely. 9Now I command you: be courageous and strong. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." 10Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people and said to them, 11"Go into the middle of the camp and command the people. Tell them, 'Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross this Jordan and go in to take the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you to possess.'" 12To the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said, 13"Remember the word that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you when he said, 'The LORD has given you rest and has given you this land.' 14Let your wives, your children and your livestock stay in this land that Moses gave you across the Jordan. But you, all your mighty men, must cross over armed ahead of your brothers and fight alongside them for them, 15until the LORD our God gives your brothers rest as he has given you, and they too take possession of the land that the LORD our God is giving them. Then each of you will return to his own inheritance, and you will possess this land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you across the Jordan toward the sunrise." 16They answered Joshua, "We will do everything you have commanded us, and we will go wherever you send us. 17Just as we obeyed Moses in everything, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD be with you as he was with Moses. 18Anyone who disobeys you, rebels against you, and does not listen to the word you command him must die. Now be strong and courageous." ‹
