Zechariah

Chapter 1 of 14
1In the second year of the reign of Darius, in the eighth month, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying, 2"The LORD was very angry with your fathers. 3So say to them, This is what the LORD Almighty says: Return to me, and I will return to you, says the LORD Almighty. 4Do not be like your fathers, whom the former prophets rebuked, saying, This is what the LORD Almighty says: Turn from your evil ways and from your evil deeds. But they refused to listen to me, says the LORD Almighty. 5Where are your fathers now? And the prophets, do they live forever? 6But receive my words and my law, all that I commanded by my Spirit to my servants the former prophets, which overtook your fathers. Then they turned and said, 'Just as the LORD Almighty said he would do to us, according to our ways and our sins, so he has done to us.'" 7On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, the month of Shebat, in the second year of the reign of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying, 8I saw in the night a man riding on a red horse. He was standing between two shaded mountains, and behind him were red, dappled, and white horses. I said, "What are these, my lord?" The angel who was talking with me said, "I will show you what this is." 9Then the man standing between the mountains answered and said to me, "These are the ones the LORD has sent to patrol the earth." 10They answered the angel of the LORD who stood between the mountains and said, "We have patrolled the whole earth, and look, the whole earth sits at rest and is quiet." 11Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, "O LORD Almighty, how long will you withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which you have been angry these seventy years?" 12The LORD answered the angel who was talking with me with good words and words of comfort. 13Then the angel who was talking with me said to me, "Cry out and say, This is what the LORD Almighty says: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Judah with a great jealousy. 14I am very angry with the nations that rose up against them, for when I was only a little angry, they added to the harm. 15Therefore this is what the LORD Almighty says: I will again stretch out my measuring line over Jerusalem." 16The angel who was talking with me said again, "Cry out and say, This is what the LORD Almighty says: Good things will again overflow in the cities, and the LORD will again have mercy on Zion and will again choose Jerusalem." 17Again I lifted up my eyes and saw four horns. 18I said to the angel who was talking with me, "What are these, my lord?" He said to me, "These are the horns that scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem." 19Then the LORD showed me four craftsmen. 20I said, "What are these coming to do?" He said to me, "These are the horns that scattered Judah and Israel, so that no one could lift up his head. But these craftsmen have come to sharpen their tools in their hands against the four horns of the nations, who raised their horn to scatter the land of the LORD." [unclear in the Ge'ez]
