Nahum
Chapter 1 of 3
1The burden of Nineveh: the book of the vision of Nahum the son of Elkosh. 2The LORD is jealous and an avenger. The LORD takes vengeance in his anger on his foes and destroys his enemies. 3The LORD is patient and great in power, and he does not count even the guilty as innocent. The LORD's way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. 4He rebukes the sea and dries it up, and he drains all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel waste away, and the blossom of Lebanon fades. 5The mountains quake before him, and the hills tremble, and the whole earth is shaken at his presence. 6No one of all who live on the earth can stand before his face. Who can stand against the fury of his anger? His anger melts their rulers, and the rocks are shattered by him. 7The LORD is good to those who wait for him in the day of their distress, and he knows those who fear him. 8He makes those who rise up against him perish in a rushing flood, and darkness pursues his enemies. 9What are you plotting against the LORD? He will make a full end, and he will take vengeance once more, all at once, with affliction. 10For their foundation will be ruined and devoured like a tangle of thorns, and it will be consumed like dry stubble. 11For out of you comes an evil plan against the LORD, and you devise wicked counsel. 12This is what the LORD says: he makes many waters flow, and he dries them up the same way, and your report will no longer be heard. 13And now he will break his rod off you, and I will snap your chains. 14The LORD will command concerning you that your name will be carried on no longer. I will cut off your carved idol from the house of your god, and I will quickly make your grave out of your molten image. 15Look! On the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news and announce peace. Keep your feasts, Judah, and fulfill your vows, for they will not come again to fight against you. ‹
