Micah
Chapter 1 of 7
1The word of the LORD came to Micah son of Moreth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. 2Hear, you nations! Listen, earth, and all who live in it! The LORD will be a witness against you, the LORD from his holy temple. 3Look, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling. He will come down and tread on the heights of the earth. 4The mountains will shake beneath him, and the hills will melt like wax before fire, like water rushing down a slope. 5All this is because of the sin of Jacob and the guilt of the house of Israel. What is the sin of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the guilt of the house of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem? 6I will make Samaria like a watchman's hut in a field of cucumbers, like a place for planting vineyards. I will pour her stones down into the valley and lay bare her foundations. 7All her carved images will be smashed, and all her wages will be burned with fire. I will destroy all her idols, for she gathered them from the wages of her prostitution, and to the wages of prostitutes they will return. 8Therefore she will weep and wail. She will go barefoot and naked. She will howl like a serpent and mourn like the daughters of the sirens. 9For her wound is severe. It has come to Judah and reached the gate of my people, as far as Jerusalem. 10Do not boast in Gath, and do not rebuild, you who live in Akim. In your house of disgrace, throw dust on your heads for your shame. 11She who lived well in her cities, she who lives in Zaanan, has not come out. The houses near her will weep with her, and you will receive from them a blow and pain. 12Who has begun to do good for the one who lives in sorrow? For disaster has come down from the LORD to the gates of Jerusalem. 13There is the noise of chariots and horses against the one who lives in Lachish. She was the beginning of sin for the daughter of Zion, for the idols of Israel were found in you. 14Because you sent messengers as far as the inheritance of Gath, they have come to nothing. The royal houses of Israel have been emptied. 15They will bring the people of Lachish to their heirs. They will take possession as far as Adullam, and the glory of the daughter of Israel will be brought there. 16Shave your head and cut your hair for your beloved children. Make yourself as bald as an eagle, for they have been carried away captive from you. ‹
