Tegsas (Proverbs 25-31)

Chapter 1 of 6
1These are the instructions of Solomon, sure and free of doubt, which the friends of Hezekiah king of Judah wrote down. 2The glory of the LORD hides a fault, and the praise of a king honors a servant. 3The heavens are high and the earth is deep, and in the same way the heart of a king cannot be known. 4Remove the dross from silver that is not refined, and it will come out perfectly pure for you. 5Put the wicked to death from before the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness. 6Do not exalt yourself in the king's presence, do not justify yourself before the LORD, and do not stand in the place of princes. 7It is better for you to be told, "Come up here to us," than to be humbled before a ruler. Speak what your eyes have seen, and do not rush into a quarrel. 8Argue your case with your neighbor fairly, but do not reveal his secret, so that you will not regret it in the end. 9When your friend quarrels with you, step back and do not insist on winning, so that your friend will not insult you, and so that your quarrel and your hatred will not drive you away from him. 10But if you reveal his secret, it will be like death to you. Kindness and friendship set a person free; keep them for yourself so that you are not disgraced, and guard your ways by good conduct. 11Like an apple of gold set in a silver dish, so is a word spoken at the right time. 12Like a gold earring set with a precious carnelian of great price, so is the word of a wise man in a listening ear: it is good. 13Like snow falling at harvest time, welcome in the heat, so is a faithful messenger: he refreshes the soul of those who sent him. 14Like winds and clouds without rain, when rain is expected in the harvest season and brings no help, so are all who boast of a false gift. 15By patience comes the good life; a gentle tongue rules and breaks bones. 16My son, when you find honey, eat in moderation, so that you do not become too full and vomit. 17Be slow to set your feet in your friend's house, so that he does not grow tired of you and hate you. 18A club, a whip, a grief to the heart: so is a man who bears false witness against his friend. 19The way of the evil and the foot of the sinner will perish in the evil day. As vinegar is no good for a wound, so disgrace that falls on the body grieves the heart. 20As the moth is to wood and the worm is to clothing, so grief is to a man: it ruins his heart. 21If your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink. If you do this, you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD will repay you with good. 22The north wind stirs up clouds, and a shameless face provokes the tongue. 23It is better to live in a corner of a broken roof than with a quarrelsome woman in a spacious house. 24Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. 25Like one who stops up springs and spoils a source of water, so it is not good for a righteous man to fall before the wicked. 26It is not good to eat much honey, but it is right to honor noble words and to seek out true honor. 27Like a city whose wall is broken down and has no wall, so is a man without counsel.
