Chapter 1 of 10
1The islands of Egypt will rejoice in the last days, because a good and gentle one will come upon them, who will take vengeance for those whom Sebelyanos wronged and led astray, he who opposes the way of his Creator. 2He will take vengeance on him and bring his glory down to the dust and to disgrace, because he exalted himself in his heart. 3He said, "Who is higher than I? For I go down into the heart of the seas and I climb up to the heights. I am not afraid of the deep waters, and I gather the children of Adam like young birds. 4"No one can hold me back from my hand. I do not let those who live on the earth alone if they do the will of the LORD, for I make excuses about them in order to turn them aside from the straight way of the LORD. 5"I bring them back into my own evil way, so that they may go with me into destruction. 6"This is why those who love Him and keep His commandments hate me. But those who have strayed from their Lord come to me. They love me, keep my covenant and do my commands just as I have ordered them, for I corrupt their hearts and twist their minds so that they will not turn back to the LORD their Creator. 7"When I show them the goods of this world, I lead their hearts astray from the straight way. When I show them the beauty of women and young girls, by these too I turn them aside from the straight way. 8"When I show them the gleaming stones of India and stones of gold and silver, by this too I turn them aside from the straight way, so that they turn to my own works. 9"When I show them fine garments, linen, silk, brocade and gauze, by this too I turn them from the straight way and bring them back to my own thoughts. When I show them fattened, sleek cattle, by this too I turn them to my own works. 10"When I show them rivalries born of pride, of women, of wealth and of anger, by all of this I turn them to my own way. 11"When I show them signs, I enter into the hearts of their companions and add into their hearts the words of their own signs. And when I show the sign of their word, I make them proud. 12"To those whom I have made my dwelling place I show signs, whether by the running of the stars, or by the movements of the clouds, or by the blazing of fire, or by the cries of birds and beasts. By all these I set a sign in their hearts, for they are my dwelling place. 13"They talk and give signs to their companions, and I go ahead of them and become the sign just as their masters told them. 14"I bring about for them the sign of their word, so that those who consult them are led astray and pay them a fee and tell their companions, 'There is no one as wise as So-and-so, man or woman, for whom things happen just as they said. They know prophecy and can tell good from evil, and everything turns out as they said, and it is done just as they spoke.' 15"When they say this, I rejoice, so that those who perish will be many and those who stray after me will increase, and the children of Adam will perish with me. For because of their father Adam the LORD threw me down from my throne, when I said, 'I will not bow down to one who is lower than I.' 16"So I take my revenge on all his children who walk by my commands and lead them into destruction. I have a pledge from the One who created me, that those I have led astray will be thrown into the fire with me. 17"I pleaded with my Lord when He brought down His anger on me and ordered that I be bound and thrown into Gehenna and into the depths of Sheol. When my Creator gave this order, I pleaded before Him, saying, 'My Lord, since You have become angry with me, rebuked me with Your punishment and struck me in Your wrath, allow me to speak one word before You.' 18"He answered me and said, 'Speak, and I will hear you.' Then I began to beg Him, saying, 'Since I have been driven from my throne, let those whom I lead astray be with me in the torment I suffer. 19"'But as for those who refuse me and are not led astray by me and do not keep my commands, so that they do Your commands, fulfill Your will and keep Your word: since they refused me, as I spared them, and were not led astray by me as I tried to lead them, let them belong to Your kingdom, and let them receive the crown You gave me when You loved me. 20"'And to all the powers that were driven out with me and are called demons, give their crowns to them, and seat them at Your right hand on my throne, which is now empty of me and my angels. 21"'Let them praise You as You desire, and let them be as I and my angels were, and let them praise You as You desire. For my authority has been taken away and theirs has been raised up, because You have hated me and loved those who were made from dust and ashes.' 22"My Lord answered me and said, 'As you wish. Those who do not desire My blessing will be yours, as you have said, because they saw and heard, and yet you led them astray. 23"'Their destruction does not grieve Me when they come to you, having abandoned My commandments and the words of My books. If you have led them astray, they will be condemned with you, both of you.'" 24You will have no escape forever, nor will those who were led astray by you escape the sentence of judgment, but you will be tormented in the fire forever and ever.
