Jubilees

Chapter 1 of 50
1In the first year after the children of Israel came out of Egypt, in the third month, on the sixteenth day of that month, the LORD spoke to Moses: "Come up here to me on the mountain, and I will give you two stone tablets of the law and the commandment, everything that has been written, so that you may teach them." 2So Moses went up the mountain of God, and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and a cloud covered it for six days. 3On the seventh day he called to Moses from the middle of the cloud, and Moses saw the glory of the LORD like a fire blazing on the top of the mountain. 4Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights, and the LORD taught him what came before and what is yet to come, the account of the division of all the days of the law and the testimony. 5He said to him, "Pay close attention to every word I tell you on this mountain, and write it in a book, so that their descendants may see how they came to be abandoned because of all the evil they did in breaking the covenant that I am making today between me and you for their generations on Mount Sinai. 6When all these things come upon them, this will be told, and they will know that I am more righteous than they are in all their judgments and in all their deeds, and they will know that I have truly been with them. 7So write down for yourself every word I make known to you today, for I know their rebellion and their stiff neck, even before I bring them into the land I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, 'To your descendants I will give a land flowing with milk and honey.' They will eat and be full, and then they will turn to a foreign god, to gods that cannot save them from any of their troubles. 8This testimony will be heard as a witness against them, for they will forget all the commandments I give them. They will follow the nations, their impurity, and their shame, and they will serve their gods. These will become a stumbling block to them, bringing trouble, anguish, and a snare. 9Many will perish. They will be taken captive and fall into the hands of the enemy, because they abandoned my ordinances and my commandments, the festivals of my covenant, my Sabbaths, the holy things I made holy for myself among them, and my tabernacle and my sanctuary, which I made holy for myself in the middle of the land, to set my name on it and to dwell there. 10They will make for themselves high places, sacred groves, and carved idols, and each will bow down to his own and go astray. They will sacrifice their children to demons and to every work their misguided hearts devise. I will send witnesses to them to testify against them, but they will not listen. They will even kill the witnesses. 11They will kill those who seek the law and drive them out. They will overturn everything and set out to do evil in my sight. 12I will hide my face from them and hand them over to the nations for captivity, for plunder, and to be devoured. I will remove them from the land and scatter them among the nations. 13They will forget all my law, all my commandments, and all my judgments, and they will discard the new moons, the Sabbaths, the festivals, the jubilees, and the ordinances. 14After this they will turn back to me from among the nations with all their heart, all their soul, and all their strength, and I will gather them from among all the nations. 15They will seek me, and I will let them find me. When they seek me with all their heart and all their soul, I will reveal to them abundant peace in righteousness, and I will transplant them as a plant of uprightness, with all my heart and all my soul. 16They will be a blessing and not a curse, the head and not the tail. I will build my sanctuary among them and dwell with them. I will be their God, and they will be my people in truth and righteousness. I will not abandon them or turn away from them, for I am the LORD their God." 17Then Moses fell on his face and prayed: "O Lord my God, do not leave your people and your inheritance to walk in the error of their hearts. Do not hand them over to the nations to rule over them, and do not let the nations lead them to sin against you. 20Lord, let your mercy be lifted high over your people. Create in them an upright spirit, and do not let the spirit of Beliar rule over them, to accuse them before you and to trap them and turn them from every path of righteousness, so that they perish from your presence. 21They are your people and your inheritance, whom you rescued with your great power from the hand of Egypt." 22The LORD said to Moses, "I know how they argue against me, I know their thoughts, and I know their stiff neck. They will not listen until they acknowledge their own sins and the sins of their fathers. 23After this they will turn back to me in all uprightness, with all their heart and all their soul. 24Their souls will cling to me and to all my commandments, and they will keep my commandments. I will be their Father, and they will be my children. 25They will all be called children of the living God. Every angel and every spirit will know them, and they will know that these are my children and that I am their Father in uprightness and righteousness, and that I love them. 26Now write down for yourself all these words I make known to you on this mountain, the first things and the last, and what is still to come, in all the divisions of the days in the law and in the testimony, by their weeks and their jubilees, forever." 27Then he said to the angel of the presence, "Write for Moses from the first creation until the time my sanctuary is built among them forever and ever. 28The LORD will appear before the eyes of all, and all will know that I am the God of Israel, the Father of all the children of Jacob, and King on Mount Zion forever and ever. Zion and Jerusalem will be holy." 29Then the angel of the presence, who went before the camp of Israel, took the tablets of the division of the years from the time of creation, of the law and the testimony, by their weeks and their jubilees, year by year in their full number, and the jubilees from the day of the new creation, when the heavens and the earth and all their creatures will be renewed, according to the powers of heaven and all the creatures of the earth, until the sanctuary of the LORD is made in Jerusalem on Mount Zion.
